It Took You Long Enough

Where has THIS been our whole lives? File this under the food news we could’ve used when we were all kids! The absolute rock stars at Dr Pepper Snapple Group, owner of 7Up, introduced into instant icon-status yesterday the 7Up brand extension once only available at your local, cozy restaurant poured into a tall, skinny glass layered carefully with ruby red grenadine, accompanied by a slender red straw and topped with a handful of dreamy Maraschino cherries. Queue the watery eyes, melted heart and toothy grin of a reflection in you in more youthful, sepia-toned memories of your childhood. Shirley Temple 7Up, flexing, will trade in grenadine for a blend of pomegranate and cherry flavors. A bold choice but one that the soft drink maker promises will remain true to the classic impromptu kids cocktail made famous by a bartender at the Brown Derby in the 1930s for, well, Shirley Temple (then 7 years of age). The oh-so-effervescent beverage is to debut in October at stores nationwide and will be available in 2-liter bottles, 12 and 8 ounce cans, 20 ounce bottles and alas, with a Zero Sugar varietal. Natch. Seriously, once you look at the image above and take this all in, you can’t help but wonder why it took 90 some years to monetize liquid nostalgia. You’re welcome.
